Corona virus support group set up in the parish

With the support of the parish council, a Corona virus support group has been set up in this parish. Willing volunteers are ready to help those that are self-isolating and have not got access to goods and services they need.

If you are on Facebook you can join a group there. Members are also part of a Binfield Heath  group with many volunteers.

Progress with the parish plan

A Neighbourhood Development Plan steering group has begun the task of shaping planning policies which will guide future development in our area. We need more group members.

As one example of the critical issues facing us all, Reading has announced an important consultation on the future of transportation both inside and outside the Borough. As well as a new bridge across the Thames, it includes a proposal for two new Park & Ride sites, either in our parish or on its margin. A major new route linking these schemes is also proposed, with funding from ‘enabling development’ – which means new building in the area. Please respond to this consultation and look out for communications from the Eye & Dunsden NDP group.

Temporary closure of Dunsden village hall

The trustees of Eye & Dunsden Village Hall have reluctantly decided that, in the light of the current health crisis, and in the best interests of all users and staff, they must temporarily close the hall with effect from Thursday 19 March until 20 April.

This means that all the many exercise classes and meetings hosted at the hall have regretfully ceased. A number of weddings planned for the hall have also had to be cancelled. Watch the hall website or contact the Bookings Manager for further news.

Forthcoming attractions

After last year’s fabulous event, we are looking forward to again hosting a Flock Comedy night at the hall on 3 October, with Alfie Moore from the hit BBC Radio 4 series “It’s a Fair Cop” the headline act.

The return of the highly acclaimed musical duo Ninebarrow will now take place on 11 December. Please check the hall Facebook page and website dunsdenvillagehall.co.uk for further updates on this and our other planned events.

Look out for a bright new website for Dunsden village hall soon! The hall’s Chair, David Woodward, is a web and graphic designer and is currently collaborating with a student from Reading university on a new site for the hall.

The hall is continuing its appeal for new volunteers to help with its running. We have a team of regular volunteers whose help at our fund-raising events is much appreciated. We are also looking for new trustees to engage in the rewarding process of running the hall, pending the conversion of the hall to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

A new stained glass window for Dunsden church

Dunsden Owen Association is pursuing a long-term plan to install a commemorative window in All Saints Church to mark the connection of Wilfred Owen with the area. It is hoped the design will emerge from a collaboration with the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass, which holds an annual window design competition. The church expects to launch a campaign for donations to fund the making of the window.

SODC clamp down on fly-tipping

South Oxfordshire District Council is pursuing a number of prosecutions against people who have been caught fly-tipping in Bird in Hand Lane and elsewhere in the parish.
